Smart Start: Developing a Successful Business

Do you dream of starting your own business, but don’t know where to begin? How do you validate your startup idea before you quit you day job?  What chance does your idea have of being profitable? It’s easy to become overwhelmed in the early stages of launching a company. Learn the first steps to starting a business your own business and how to pave the way to success. This workshop will outline the first steps you need to take, how to create a business plan, and how to get a handle of the finances from the start. Lunch will be provided.

Heather Fisher

Heather Fisher has been with the Ozarks Small Business Incubator 4 ½ years; first serving as its Program Coordinator and as of 2014 its Executive Director.   As a certified Business Advisor with GrowthWheel, Heather has spent thousands of hours mentoring small businesses.  Heather has a Master’s degree in Social and Economic Development from Washington University in St. Louis and has spent her career working to further community development, both as the Economic Developer of Thayer/Oregon County, owner of a grant writing business, and as a mentor to small businesses.

Willis Mushrush

Willis Mushrush, Business Development Specialist, University of Missouri Extension, began his career in retailing while still in high school in the late 1960’s. After ending his retailing career, he became a Human Resource Manager for a large manufacturing government contractor for 10 years prior to becoming employed by the University of Missouri. Willis has assisted many small businesses throughout Missouri for over 20 years while working with the Missouri Small Business & Technology Development Center and the Missouri Procurement Technical Assistance Center. Willis received his Bachelor of Science in Management from Southwest Missouri State University, and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Arkansas.
